Wirewalker (IMAGE) Naval Research Laboratory Caption A Wirewalker, driven by waves and currents, sits at the ocean's surface during a field campaign led by oceanographers from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. The Wirewalker was equipped with a variety of instruments to measure light, conductivity, temperature, depth, light and acoustic backscatter, and dissolved oxygen throughout the water column. The NRL study was focused on characterizing biological ocean swarms.
