Special Issue: Ocean Climate Change (6 of 21) (IMAGE)
Caption
Diseases are widespread on many corals; they may be natural, but may be enhanced when corals are stressed by other impacts, including bleaching. In this picture, the line of disease is spread across the left of the image. Healthy coral remains to the right, while the rear part of the coral is already dead. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 13, 2015 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by M.D. Spalding at The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, VA, and colleagues was titled, 'Warm water coral reefs and climate change.'
