The presence of a rat trapped in a restrainer elicits focused activity from his cagemate, leading eventually to door-opening and consequent liberation of the trapped rat. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 9, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by I.B.-A. Bartal at University of Chicago in Chicago, IL., and colleagues was titled, “Empathy and Pro-Social Behavior in Rats.”
