Specimen ZMNH M8802, a female individual of Darwinopterus, is from the Tiaojishan Formation (upper Middle-lower Upper Jurassic) of Liaoning Province, China. (A) Partially prepared, exposing the skull, neck and left forelimb, but with the egg still almost completely encased in the rock. (B) Fully prepared with the entire skeleton and egg now completely exposed. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Jan. 21, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Junchang Lü of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences in Beijing, China, and colleagues was titled, "An Egg-Adult Association, Gender, and Reproduction in Pterosaurs."
