There are several hundred craters in the area. Over one hundred of them are up to one kilometer wide. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 2, 2017, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by K. Andreassen at Centre for Arctic Gas Hydrate, Environment and Climate (CAGE), The Arctic University of Norway (UiT) in Tromsø, Norway, and colleagues was titled, 'Massive blow-out craters formed by hydrate-controlled methane expulsion from the Arctic seafloor.'
