Molecular "Pulleys" Help Boost Battery Performance (VIDEO)
Caption
The ring-sliding of polyrotaxanes imparts extraordinarily elasticity to the new battery binder, extending the cycle life of silicon microparticle electrodes substantially in lithium ion batteries. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the July 21, 2017 issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Choi at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, and colleagues was titled, 'Highly elastic binders integrating polyrotaxanes for silicon microparticle anodes in lithium ion batteries.'
