A New Route for Lithium Battery Electrodes? (IMAGE)
Caption
Colored scanning transmission electron microsopy (STEM) images, were taken along the [010] zone axis in a lithium-excess molybdenum chromium oxide particle before (top) and after (bottom) 10 electrochemical cycle. The upper inset shows the cation distribution in the layered structure, and the lower inset shows a snapshot of a percolating fast lithium-diffusion network in a disordered lithium-excess material. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 10 Jan., 2014, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by J. Lee at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, and colleagues was titled, "Unlocking the Potential of Cation-Disordered Oxides for Rechargeable Lithium Batteries."
