Fossil horn corals. The corals are about 450 million years old and represent a group of marine organisms commonly found in the fossil record. The specimen is part of the collection of the UW-Madison Geology Museum. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Nov. 25, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by B. Hannisdal of University of Bergen in Bergen, Norway, and colleagues, was titled, “Phanerozoic Earth System Evolution and Marine Biodiversity.”
