Collagen 'Anchors' Make Combination Immunotherapies Safer and More Effective in Mice (3 of 4) (VIDEO)
Caption
These videos step through a B16F10 melanoma tumor and MC38 colon tumor from the outside towards the center. They capture two features: 1) the sheer abundance of collagen (white), particularly at the periphery of a tumor, and 2) the formidable physical barrier collagen poses to immune cells trying to infiltrate. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the June 26, 2019, issue of Science Translational Medicine, published by AAAS. The paper, by N. Momin at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA; and colleagues was titled, "Anchoring of intratumorally administered cytokines to collagen safely potentiates systemic cancer immunotherapy."
