Aphid on the Leaf Surface of <i>Caiophora deserticola</i> (Loasaceae)

Caption

The large stinging hairs (long stings) are way too long to do any damage to the small insects. However, the sharp mineralized trichomes represent a deadly forest of needles that the animal has to walk over.
