On Aug. 1 at 0348 UTC (July 31 at 11:48 p.m. EDT) the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP satellite captured a visible image of Subtropical Depression 16W in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean.
