Formation of Periodic Bands During Drying (VIDEO) American Institute of Physics This video is under embargo. Please login to access this video. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Caption A silicon substrate vertically immersed in a dilute colloidal suspension of PMMA spheres (with a diameter of 375nm) dispersed in water. The camera is facing the liquid meniscus and the plane of the substrate. As water evaporates, the meniscus moves downwards leaving periodic bands of colloidal films behind. The visualized screen width is ~4mm, and the entire movie is sped up -- took place over ~12.5 hours (so it).
