Carbon in grasslands is concentrated belowground, in soil, which can accumulate more carbon as plant diversity increases. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 05 April 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by B.A. Hungate at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., and colleagues was titled, "The economic value of grassland species for carbon storage."
