Figure (IMAGE) University of Tsukuba Caption Mouse hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation has involved adult and fetal mice and recipient HSC depletion using irradiation and other DNA damaging approaches. Exploiting their understanding of genetics and hematopoiesis, researchers from the University of Tsukuba have developed a new, embryonic HSC transplantation model that lacks HSCs. They have shown high donor cell chimerism in recipients and that these cells are functional. This report describes a model for exploring HSCs and hematopoiesis.
