This is the world's northernmost coast in summer. Greenland's northern tip, Kap Morris Jesup, is beleaguered by landfast ice with meltwater pools, July 2007. This image relates to an article that appeared in the Aug. 5, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Svend Funder of the Natural History Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, "A 10,000-Year Record of Arctic Ocean Sea-Ice Variability -- View from the Beach."
