This is a small-scale aquaponics demonstration lab at UMass Amherst. Such recirculating aquaculture systems include various water treatment devices connected through flowing water. The waste stream is diverted to a hydroponic garden (background) where plant roots strip out nutrients. Clean water is then recycled back to the fish holding pens.
