Cracking the Genetic Code for Complex Traits in Cattle (VIDEO)
Caption
Professor Ben Hayes describes a massive global study published in Nature Genetics, involving 58,000 cattle that successfully identifies the genes influencing the complex genetic trait of height in cattle. The Consortium's findings opens the door for researchers to use the same approach to map high-value traits including those important for beef and milk production, and reduced methane emissions. The Consortium also demonstrated, for the first time, that the genes influencing the trait of height in cattle also influence the same trait in humans and dogs.
