Smoke from Washington State Fires (IMAGE)

Smoke continues to pepper the skies over western and central Washington State from several wildfires. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument that flies onboard NASA's Terra satellite captured an image of smoke from these fires Aug. 18, 2015. The multiple red pixels are heat signatures (red). The smoke appears to be a light brown color.
The fires in the central part of the state include the Chelan Complex, Wolverine Fire, North Star Wildfire, Okanogan Complex Wildfire, and Kettle Complex Wildfires. The Tower Fire in the northeastern corner of the state, and the Cougar Creek Wildfire in the southwestern part of the state are all adding to the smoke.
