A joint NASA and National Science Foundation mission is headed out from Seattle, straight for the twilight zone. The science team with the Export Processes in the Ocean from Remote Sensing (EXPORTS) campaign is traveling aboard two floating research laboratories to explore the dimly lit depths of the ocean between 650 and 3,300 feet below the surface.
