Abbreviations: Phanero = Phanerozoic, Prot = Proterozoic, Ceno = Cenozoic, E = Ediacaran, Cam = Cambrian, O = Ordovician, S = Silurian, D = Devonian, Car = Carboniferous, Per = Permian, Tr = Triassic, J = Jurassic, K = Cretaceous, Pal = Paleogene, Neo = Neogene. GOE and NOE denote the Great Oxygenation Event and the Neoproterozoic Oxygenation Event, respectively. Crosses indicate times of major mass extinctions. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the May 17, 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A.H. Knoll at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and colleagues was titled, "The timetable of evolution."
