Typhoon Tracks (IMAGE)
Caption
The white-dotted curves are the 2018 typhoon tracks collected in the Northwest Pacific Ocean as the background, which is the major target area of the Asia-Pacific Regional Coupled Prediction System developed by the Modeling and Prediction Research Group of the Key Laboratory of Physical Oceanography MOE, Ocean University of China. The authors analyze the configuration of the oceanic and atmospheric conditions at the onset of Typhoon Yagi (2018), which is predicted 5 days in advance by the system. The three-dimensional diagram of air-sea joint structures consists of the low-pressure center, high sea surface temperature at the typhoon location, and the wind curl around the typhoon core.
