The human symbiont Ruminococcus gnavus E1 produces the antimicrobial and safe sactipeptide RumC1 which is externally activated in the gut by the host digestive system. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the September 25th, 2019, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by S. Chiumento at Université Grenoble Alpes in Grenoble, France, and colleagues was titled, "Ruminococcin C, a promising antibiotic produced by a human gut symbiont."
