A Stretchable, Ultrasonic Device that Images Complex Surfaces (5 of 5) (IMAGE)
Caption
Stretchable, flexible ultrasound probe can conform to curvy and irregular surfaces. This device could one day make it easier to detect structural defects inside hard-to-reach areas of cars, planes, ships, reactor pipes and other nonplanar structures. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 23 March 2018, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by H. Hu at University of California San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., and colleagues was titled, "Stretchable ultrasonic transducer arrays for three-dimensional imaging on complex surfaces."
