This is an infrared image of supernova 1987A, taken by Herschel Space Observatory and Spitzer Space Telescope. Image uses the data at 8, 24 and 250 micron. The two white lines indicate supernova 1987A. This image relates to an article that appeared in the July 7, 2011, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Mikako Matsuura of University College London in London, UK, and colleagues was titled, "Herschel Detects a Massive Dust Reservoir in Supernova 1987A."
