Polarized antigen is segregated asymmetrically between progeny during B cell division. The polarized distribution of antigen (red) in B cells (membrane in blue; nucleus in green) 36 hours after antigen internalization was examined using serial block face scanning electron microscopy. This image is a 3D reconstruction. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Jan. 27, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by O. Thaunat at Cancer Research UK in London, UK, and colleagues, was titled, “Asymmetric Segregation of Polarized Antigen on B Cell Division Shapes Presentation Capacity.”
