This is a scheme of dielectric-coated metallic sphere nanoclusters. Unique optical resonances can be tailored based on the number and arrangement of particles in the clusters. Electric field profiles of magnetic dipole and Fano-like resonances are depicted with the three and seven particle clusters. This image relates to an article that appeared in the May 28, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. J.A. Fan at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and colleagues, is titled, "Self-Assembled Plasmonic Nanoparticle Clusters."
