Aldabra giant tortoises (Aldabrachelys gigantean) were introduced to Round Island, Mauritius, as ecological replacements for the extinct Mauritian giant tortoises (Cylindraspis species), preferentially consume the fast-growing exotic flora. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the 25 July, 2014, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Philip J. Seddon at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, and colleagues was titled, 'Reversing defaunation: Restoring species in a changing world.'
