A version of Dr. David Sandwell's sea floor map reveals details about earthquakes (red dots), sea floor-spreading ridges and faults. For creating the most comprehensive global map of the ocean floor, with support from the Office of Naval Research, Sandwell received the Charles A. Whitten Medal, sponsored by the American Geophysical Union.
