Upscaling to More Accurately Count Tropical Forest Tree Types (IMAGE)
Caption
The challenge of estimating global tropical species richness. The map depicts the 15 forests in the study's dataset in which the coordinates of each subplot (squares) are known. The goal is to deduce the species richness and abundances of each entire forest based on the very limited knowledge in the marked dots. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the 18 October 2017, issue of Science Advances, published by AAAS. The paper, by A. Tovo at Università di Padova in Padova, Italy, and colleagues was titled, "Upscaling species richness and abundances in tropical forests."
