Bladder Lining (IMAGE)
Caption
After infection with E. coli bacteria, the major cause of urinary infections, the bladder works to repair damage to its lining. Newly forming cells are outlined in pink and have bright yellow speckled nuclei. In bladders of menopausal mice, this process is disrupted. New cells keep forming, but the barrier (highlighted in teal) is not fully repaired.
