Like this stand in the Adirondacks of New York State, old-growth forests have complex structures, mixed-aged trees, high biodiversity, and rich microclimates. A new study now shows that imitating old-growth forests provides many benefits -- including capturing carbon in managed forestland far better than conventional forestry techniques.
