GALE 2 (IMAGE) Rice University Caption A river-fed sedimentary plain in Iceland bears resemblance to what might have fed Mars' Gale Crater more than 3 billion years ago. Researchers at Rice University studied rover data on sedimentary rocks at the crater and compared them to similar formations on Earth to determine what the climate might have been like at the crater when the sediments were deposited.
