This shows male red-backed shrike feeding on insects. The shrikes migrate from southern Africa to Europe every spring to enjoy the rich feeding opportunities. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Dec. 7, 2012, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Anders Tøttrup at University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark, and colleagues was titled, “Drought in Africa Caused Delayed Arrival of European Songbirds.”
