Lithium-Oxygen Battery Technology Charges Ahead (1 of 1) (IMAGE)
Caption
A four-electron redox process in a Li-oxygen cell is electrocatalyzed by a bifunctional lithiated nickel oxide-molten salt composite cathode at elevated temperature to form Li2O. It evolves oxygen on charge with close to 100% coulombic efficiency. This material relates to a paper that appeared in the Aug. 24, 2018, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Chun Xia at University of Waterloo in Waterloo, ONT, Canada and colleagues was titled, "A high-energy-density lithium-oxygen battery based on a reversible four-electron conversion to lithium oxide."
