Proteins Share Common Folding Pathways (4 of 4) (IMAGE)
Caption
Representative snapshots from a simulation of the “folding” of a protein. This simulation, conducted on the special-purpose supercomputer Anton, reveals the way in which a protein proceeds in a series of well-defined steps from a disordered “unfolded” state to the characteristic “folded” shape that underlies its biological activity. This relates to the paper by Dr. Lindorff-Larsen and colleagues. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Oct. 28, 2011, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by K. Lindorff-Larsen of D. E. Shaw Research in New York, NY, and colleagues, was titled, “How Fast-Folding Proteins Fold.”
