Recent UTSW research shows that by bundling F-actin, dynamin increases the mechanical strength of the actin cytoskeleton and enables the formation of invasive membrane protrusions during cell-cell fusion. This unique multifilament bundling mechanism may be generally applicable to other cytoskeletal remodeling events involving dynamin and actin.
