New Species of North Pacific Ocean Fossil Baleen Whale Discovered

This is University of Otago Professor Ewan Fordyce with a new species of fossil baleen whale he and his colleagues have named Fucaia buelli. The fossil is transitional between ancient toothed whales and the baleen whales of modern seas. It is one of the oldest baleen whales ever found and, at a length of about 2-2.5m, also one of the smallest.
