Fruit fly eggs laid in alcoholic (red) and non-alcoholic (blue) food dishes when endoparasitoid wasps were not present in the fly population cages. Flies normally prefer to lay eggs in non-alcoholic food. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the Feb. 22, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by Balint Z. Kacsoh at Emory University in Atlanda, GA, and colleagues was titled, “Fruit Flies Medicate Offspring After Seeing Parasites.”
