This is a Nasonia vitripennis pupae in a host. The host pupae are opened to reveal Nasonia pupae developing within it. The wasp young have eaten the fly and, except for a few scraps, only wasps remain. This image relates to an article that appeared in the January 15, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. J.H. Werren at University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., and colleagues, was titled, "Functional and Evolutionary Insights from the Genomes of Three Parasitoid Nasonia Species."
