In July 2008, a stream of meltwater runs across the silty surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet as it is rapidly melting near Kangerlussuaq releasing large amounts of silt from the basal ice. This image relates to a paper that appeared in 17 April, 2014, issue of Science Express, published by AAAS. The paper, by Paul R. Bierman at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt., and colleagues was titled, "Preservation of a Preglacial Landscape Under the Center of the Greenland Ice Sheet."
