Sauropods were colossal grazers, but their ancestors were light-footed predators -- as revealed by studies of their braincases. "We used CT scans to deduce the brain structure from the morphology of the skull," Mario Bronzati and Oliver Rauhut, Palaeontologists at LMU, say. "We found that areas required to direct voluntary movements of the head and neck, for the sense of balance and for oculomotor control were particularly prominent -- all features that a successful predator needs."
