Rotary Actuator (VIDEO)
Caption
Relying on the simple motion of bending, soft pneumatic actuators have manipulated fragile objects with pressurized fingers and have crawled/undulated by changing their gaits. However, rotation plays a significant role in the design of simple machines, as conventional robots often do not depend on bending actuators but employ joints and torque-providing motors. Recent advances in pneumatic, elastomeric actuators are not capable of delivering torque through pure rotation.
