Primary Hip Replacement: 20% of patients (IMAGE)
Caption
Patients with extremity injuries sometimes develop a condition of aberrant healing called heterotopic ossification (HO) in which bone grows in nonskeletal tissues. The above images show the incidence of HO in specific types of injuries or procedures. Research at UT Southwestern is pioneering novel pathway and prevention strategies to mitigate this debilitating process.
