Rogue Light Waves (IMAGE) Optica Caption This image shows a "supercontinuum" of light produced within a nonlinear optical fiber. When a supercontinuum is seeded by noise, rather than the short pulses that created this image, the spectral broadening is very chaotic and turbulent and can, in rare cases, generate giant, high-intensity "rogue" light waves that can be used to model oceanic analogs.
