Well-established in the US, this is the first time World Community Grid has supported a UK research project. With computing power crowd-sourced from hundreds of thousands of volunteers, Nottingham researchers aim to model the behavior of the TB bacteria to understand how it currently protects itself from antibiotic treatments and the host's immune system. Scientists hope the results of the Help Stop TB project will lead to better treatments that can evade this deadly disease's defenses.
