This is a block-shaped single crystal of [C7H11]+[Al2Br7]– • CH2Br2 (1) mounted on a MicroMount. The crystals were extremely air-, moisture-, and temperature-sensitive. This image relates to a paper that appeared in the July 5, 2013, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The paper, by F. Scholz at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in Freiburg, Germany, and colleagues was titled, "Crystal Structure Determination of the Nonclassical 2-Norbornyl Cation."
