Too Much of a Good Thing? CO2 and Plants (IMAGE)
Caption
Twelve wheat plants in a chamber in which the shoots' carbon dioxide and oxygen exchange are monitored to assess nitrate assimilation under various atmospheric conditions. Bubbles form in the water jacket that controls air temperature. This image relates to an article that appeared in the May 14, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The study, by Dr. Arnold Bloom of University of California at Davis, and colleagues, is titled, "Carbon Dioxide Enrichment Inhibits Nitrate Assimilation in Wheat and Arabidopsis."
