This is an electron micrograph of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the macrophage, its host cell. You can see several bacteria inside vacuoles inside the cell. This image relates to an article that appeared in the May 14, 2010, issue of Science, published by AAAS. The Review, by Dr. David Russell of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and colleagues, is titled, "Tuberculosis: What We Don’t Know Can, and Does, Hurt Us."
