The illustration portrays an early gastruloid resembling Pac-Man, navigating through a maze that spells out “GLYCOLYSIS,” eventually facing a road bifurcation with paths leading to success or failure. On its way, the gastruloid-PacMan needs to avoid the ghosts in the form of the complexes I-IV of the electron transport chain. To be successful, the gastruloid-Pac-Man needs to avoid the ghosts while consuming all the sugar (dots), thus illustrating the path gastruloids need to follow to reach an embryo-like state.
