Etiopathogenesis of FD and GP.

An overlap exists in the pathogenesis of FD and GP. The gut–brain axis (GBA) implicated in both disorders is influenced by visceral sensory abnormalities, gastric disaccommodation, gastric motor dysfunction, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), exogenous gastrointestinal (GI) infections, colonic abnormalities, hormonal pathway and human genetics. In FD, duodenal perturbations and microbiome alterations have been found to be an additional underlying mechanism, but this concept is unproven in GP. H. pylori, Helicobacter pylori.
